Ziggy Makant: The Mom "Hour of Power" Campaign
In our Mom “Hour of Power” Series, we ask moms how they would choose to restore, refresh and reset their day in an hour of power. In this third installment, we profile Ziggy Makant, a pre-and-post natal fitness coach.
More, more, and more. A mother’s quest to be her best can often result in undue pressure and guilt.
Ziggy, a certified pre and post-natal fitness coach, found herself in that exact situation: she was putting pressure on herself to work more, earn more, spend more time with her child, and cook better — all whilst staying in amazing shape.
And, time proved to be money indeed. There was the dilemma between working longer hours to provide better for her son, or to spend more time raising him.
“I had to let a lot of pressure go about Ziggy having to be the one to do things, and let family and colleagues step in,” she recalls.
With the support of her family and colleagues, Ziggy has since found more time to care for herself. Now, She squeezes in 5-minute meditation sessions after long days, and takes turns with her husband to care for her son. With more time on her hands, Ziggy practices yoga and indulges in face masks to soothe her soul. And, her job does come with perks: working in a gym enables Ziggy to exercise at her convenience. Who says you can’t work out at work?
Reflecting on the importance of self-care as a mother, Ziggy rues the day her grown-up kids might begin to prefer living on their own.
“One day our kids won't want to be around us, and they'll be all grown up, so I practice trying to find gratitude in them wanting ‘mummy only!’”
Surely, that’s what the journey of motherhood is all about: in time, guilt always gives way to gratitude, and there is plenty to be thankful for as a mother.
