We Are ClassPass: Nellie & Nedra
Content Creators
Nellie Lim’s no stranger to trying new things — she travels around the world, representing some of the hottest luxury fashion labels. Nedra, her sister, is also an avid traveller and content creator in her own right, and a longtime yoga fanatic and member of the ClassPass community. We catch up with the sisters, with Nellie fresh from her first ever yoga class with Nedra.
How was trying yoga for the first time with your sister? Would you do it again?
Nellie: It was definitely an eye opening experience, because I never knew my sister was that advanced in yoga! And I’d definitely do it together with her again.
Nedra:”Only when the sky falls” — that’s what I would tell myself when I thought about the possibility of Nellie joining me for classes. It wasn’t easy getting her to come, especially since she’s never liked being in classes!
How has ClassPass help you with trying something new and finding what you like?
Nellie: I think it’s the ClassPass community that created a sense of belonging for me. I used to do a team sport, cheerleading, years ago, and I find that knowing that other people are in it with you helps to make the struggle more bearable.
Nedra: ClassPass gives me flexibility and variety. The variety allows me to go for different classes with different studios, if work stops me from making it to class on certain days. For example, I love classes for handstands, but I can’t always go for the few classes at my preferred studio. ClassPass helps me by giving me options to try other studios and instructors to train my handstands with.
Nellie, what are your struggles, when it comes to keeping fit?
Nellie: The body aches after a workout are what I don’t look forward to when I’m trying to keep fit.
What other activities are you looking forward to trying next?
Nellie: I’m really interested in trying out aerial yoga!
Nedra, how did you get into yoga yourself? How did yoga become your favourite activity?
Nedra: I had never liked yoga, or the idea of just sitting and stretching, and being one with my thoughts. I have always been someone who needs an active work out, or a competitive challenge basically, and I preferred sports like tennis, swimming, running, spin classes.
I was always ready to try out something new, or to do something crazy, until I fell and injured my knee. Just about every kind of exercise stopped working out for me.
Then, in physiotherapy, I was taught to use a foam roller to loosen up my muscles and strengthen the surrounding ones. That was how I started to pick up Yoga, which does the same: stretching and strengthening muscles at the same time. In the midst of it all, I picked up inversions — that was when I found a new competitive challenge, and that was to push myself.
What advice do you have for people who wish to try yoga?
Nedra: I would say go all out, but you could definitely start with a beginners class. I mean, you never know if you’ll like something until you try it, you know?
Life in Singapore is hectic. How do you make time for yoga?
Nedra: I usually go in the morning, so that I can check my workout off the list before starting my day — it makes you feel more productive, I swear, it feels like you’ve already done so much by 12pm!
Otherwise, I always block out time for workouts on certain days and times, to make sure that they don’t clash with my other activities.
What makes The Yoga Co. your favourite studio?
Nedra: The Yoga Co.’s one of my favourite instructors and classes. I’ve also met friends there, thanks to ClassPass!
