Barbara is at once teacher and student. When not leading classes at boxing gym, Uppercut Boxing, Barbara enjoys trying new and different activities with her friends on ClassPass. Leading, after all, should be done by example.
What do you love most about your job?
The people. Whether I’m on the stage hosting or in the classroom teaching, there’s a bond formed with everyone I have the pleasure of meeting.
How did you get started with boxing?
I had my very first boxing class almost 4 years ago with Vanda Boxing Club. Boxing has been my longest relationship to date 😂
When did you decide to become an instructor? How did you get there?
In July of 2017 I got an email from Elizabeth, Co-Founder of Uppercut, asking if I was keen to audition. I was doubtful at first, it wasn’t something I’d ever thought about doing. But with the amazing training from and with the UC team, I wouldn’t change a thing.
What other activities do you enjoy besides boxing? What do you enjoy about them?
2019 has been a very weight-training focused year for me, working on building up my strength. That being said, with my hectic schedule, I’m a massive fan of my own downtime. Give me a hot minute and you’ll find me by the pool/beach with a good book.
How has ClassPass help you in addition to your usual routine?
When ClassPass first launched, it gave me the amazing ability to try all these different studios and workouts. With such a fixed workout regime nowadays, I tend to use ClassPass for workouts that are complimentary to my goal, like Pilates and Yoga. That aside, having access to overseas studios when I travel is a massive bonus!
How do you motivate your friends to go to classes with you? What are the challenges, and does ClassPass make it easier?
I’m one of those people who has zero discipline when it comes to workout out by myself, but the moment I’m with friends or in a class setting, I go for a big push. Win win!
Which activities do you enjoy most with your friends? Why?
Schedules sometimes make it difficult to get friends to workout together, that being said, having friends on ClassPass also means that they can come for my classes at UC 😬
I absolutely love it when friends come for my classes; being able to serve up a solid sweat sesh for them feel great! And of course, going to indulge in food after.
