We Are ClassPass: Off Duty Pilates

Off Duty Pilates has quickly become fast recognizable with their trademark branding on tote bags and more. Off Duty Pilates is actually the only studio that offers a class type where you employ both the TRX and the reformer in one session. Each group class is arranged to suit your specific fitness needs, be it cardio (you can go for Jump + Sculpt), HIIT (that will be TRXHIIT) or balancing (try Core + Align). Each class is small and personal and have a maximum slot of 7, so as to ensure each student gets the focus they need from their instructor. As one of the newest pilates spots in Singapore, we are curious as to how being in the ClassPass Community has helped them ascertain their spot in the industry.

How did you decide to expand your business from F&B to fitness?

We started Off Duty Pilates because of the vision we had for the local Pilates industry. Running an Acai bowl brand naturally made us more conscious of the health and fitness offerings in Singapore. After joining various Pilates studios and gyms, we found that Pilates and especially Reformer Pilates was still very much considered a rehabilitative exercise rather than a fitness workout. It also seemed rather inaccessible both in terms of price point and perception of the workout. Teaming up with Betsy and Julie was brilliant as they brought their Pilates expertise (they have been our instructors for the past 4 years!) and common desire to disrupt the local Pilates scene.

Our goal was to create an accessible studio offering a variety of group classes that would slide right in with your fitness goals (or other workouts!), while still maintaining a focus on a strong Pilates foundation. We made sure to create a space that people could come by, get in a good workout and not feel intimidated by the various Pilates machines.

What do you think is the most important link between healthy eating and fitness?

Often we get the question – “Will eating Acai help me lose weight?” or “Will doing Pilates help me lose weight?”. To us, weight loss or a healthy lifestyle can’t be achieved without the other. It’s a balance that is hard to attain, but the physical and emotional results you experience when you add both to your life is amazing.

What is your inspiration behind Off Duty’s merch?

We wanted to go with something practical, yet useful! We love our transparent bags with our logo – they’re perfect as a shower bag (waterproof!) and is perfect for everyday use. The awesome graphic design on it doesn’t hurt either!

We also created locker keytags – similar to those you get by the pool side. Just like how you go to the pool to have fun, relax and escape, it fits in perfectly with our “off duty” vibes where you come to our studio, put aside your belongings and whatever that has been on your mind all-day into our lockers and lock them up with our keytags!

What are your future plans for Off Duty?

As with every business, expansion is definitely on our list! We want to bring the Off Duty experience to even more people throughout our island. We also hope to offer more class types with different Pilates and complementary equipment. Currently our group classes mainly use the Reformer and TRX suspension ropes, but we hope to be able to provide even more variety in the future.

How does ClassPass make you feel as a part of the fitness community in Singapore?

Simply being listed with so many awesome gyms and studios on ClassPass has made us feel legitimate! So many people in Singapore are on ClassPass these days. To be able to reach this community through ClassPass is such a rewarding experience. For these clients to choose Off Duty amongst so many other great gyms and studios out there, and to use their precious credits to work out with us is so great!
