Find Yourself with Jack Thomas

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, but not in this case. Passionate about fitness and and its ability to change and shape the lives of people, Jack’s idea of work and play mesh beautifully into one via his fitness podcast and BASE Bangkok, an immensely popular studio concept that’s garnered huge fans on ClassPass.

Jack makes puts us at ease instantly. A natural storyteller, Jack tells us about his expert juggling skills, and illustrates (of course) by juggling several bottles of BASE branded water bottles with ease. As he continues telling us about BASE and his fitness podcast, we’re imagining this lithe athlete on a completely different circus career trajectory (given his ability to also ride a unicycle and juggle.)

Jokes aside, we see an intensity in Jack that draws us in, and we feel the sense of urgency about his mission. “Our bodies are made to move” he says.  That makes us think immediately and regrettably -- given how our ancestors were made to move, having to hunt and gather for their food -- our sedentary lives in comparison (yeah, we might have skipped a morning workout at least once this week) probably explain why most of us fail to be motivated.

Jack wants to change all of that. “Motivation and inspiration” he says, are “what he wants to bring to people’s workouts.” He’s right, we think. Most people tend to try and make quick changes, but without motivation and inspiration, we often lapse. Even in our brief time with Jack, his succinct points on how to create change and become motivated by movement inspired us to get off our asses (literally). More than anything, the sincerity that Jack leads with really makes us feel connected to his ideals, which for fitness newbies, can often feel daunting.

As we finish our interview, we’re counting the ways we can do much more about our sedentary lifestyle, and can’t wait to tune into Jack’s podcast and learn more about change. Like his story?
