Jasmine Hemsley, a chef, author and champion of all things Ayurveda describes how she stays motivated to keep active and where to workout in London.

Describe your workout routine?

My work (and life!) schedule has a life of its own, which means I’m usually running around. As a Vata type who loves to keep things different where possible, I like to use ClassPass as it offers me a whole world of choice.

When I’m choosing my workouts, I look at it the Ayurvedic way and choose a class depending on the time of day. So in the morning I usually have a good old stretch when I get out of bed and then walk my dogs. Then I usually plan my day around appointments. If I am free mid-morning, I’ll do something uplifting like an aerobics-style class or dance session. If it’s the afternoon I’ll opt for something long and slow like reformer pilates (check out Tempo Pilates) and if it’s late in the day I’ll look for a yin, hatha or relaxation yoga class (I love Nahid De Belgeonne at Good Vibes) to help me wind down.

What are your favourite ClassPass studios?

My local is Breeze yoga for sound baths and Sunday night yin yoga and I mix it up with Yoga Haven in Battersea where I trained to be a yoga teacher. I’ve also been a fan of Frame and Triyoga for years. Another Space in Covent Garden is bright and pumping and a good place to meet friends for a workout before catching up over dinner, they do HIIT and cycle while I do yoga.

Any hidden gems you’ve found on ClassPass?

Chroma yoga was a bit of a find — a rainbow-coloured find! It’s an exploration of the senses playing light therapy, aromatherapy and sound frequencies to create different moods for various sessions throughout the day and it’s totally up my street. If you find yourself in East London - be sure to book a class.

If you like to dance, check out Absolute Bollywood for Bhangra!

One piece of advice for workout motivation?

Book yourself in for something easy and slow — this gentle, nurturing method works for me when I feel demotivated. Easing out the muscles and promoting the flow of prana or chi with a gentle but thorough yoga class clears my head, helps me find my calm and leaves me with a glow and smile on my face. The last thing I want to do when I’m out of sorts is throw myself into something high intensity and hard work that I feel like I can’t keep up with followed by a few days of stiff muscles that make me feel too sore to move. This is what works for me… but I know many friends who need something more intense to get back on the wagon!
