Food & Lycra is a platform started by friends Rachel, Kim & Laura as a place to share their passion for fitness while challenging the stereotypes of what a fitness enthusiast looks like. Their goal is to get more women experiencing the joys and benefits of fitness – both mental and physical. We caught up with Kim and Rachel to find out where to workout in London.

Describe your weekly workout routine?

Rachel: I try and do 2 - 3 classes a week, one has to be more strength based and one needs to be yoga. The other class varies depending on my mood - sometimes I want something sweatier, sometimes something more focused.

Kim: I do 1-2 classes a week. I have a programme that I do by myself in the gym and then I use ClassPass for yoga and HIIT classes.

What are your favourite studios and wellness services on ClassPass?

Rachel: My favourites at the moment is Crank in Peckham for their mix of strength training and great Sunday yoga! I also really enjoy going to Studio Lagree because it is the toughest workout.

Kim: I’m obviously bias but I do genuinely love 1Rebel, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to work there haha. Barber’s Gym is also one of my faves!

Any hidden gems on ClassPass you’d like to share?

Rachel: I love Barber’s Gym in Hackney Downs! There is a proper community and small class vibes, which means everything is a bit more intimate.

Tips for workout motivation?

Rachel: I would say try and mix up what you are doing. I find sometimes changing up your routine gives you a new burst of motivation, and you get to learn new skills along the way!

Kim: I’d say grab a friend. Book a class and book dinner or brunch after. Make it social, it will help you change your mindset around fitness.

How does ClassPass help when you’re stuck in a rut?

Rachel: I think ClassPass is helpful for mixing up your routine because there’s so much variety to choose from. I tend to look in and around where I work on weekdays, and on weekends more local studios near my home to go to. Because of the variety on offer, it also really allows you to listen to your body and mood and do what feels right for you on that day or week.

Kim: I love exploring new classes so when I’m feeling unmotivated ClassPass is a great way for me to explore different studios, use different equipment, experience different styles of teaching and also see different parts of London. The variety on ClassPass is great which keeps me coming back for more!
