In this Mom “Hour of Power” Series, we ask moms, if given an hour of power (or more) to restore, refresh and reset their day, what they would choose given their busy schedules. For our first installment, we feature Alicia Pan, the founder of Yoga Movement, and how she manages motherhood and keeping everything in balance.

Motherhood’s no speed bump for the co-founder, director and owner of Yoga Movement.

Motherhood can seem like an endless struggle, with the arrival of a newborn bringing a slew of worries for any new mother.

Life changes overnight, and parenting becomes a full-time job. Throw in massive changes to your body and daily schedule, and many new moms find themselves having to find new ways to adjust to their new life.

These challenges are daunting enough to any mother, and Alicia Pan, co-founder, director and owner of Yoga Movement, has definitely faced them.

“The #momguilt is real,” she says of the act of balancing her own needs, her work, and that of her son Koda.

But, she has powered through simply by never stopping. Keeping perfect pace, Alicia practiced yoga regularly during her pregnancy. Some may wince at the thought of expectant mothers exercising, but practicing yoga (yes, for up to an hour or more each week), was completely beneficial for Alicia — she was free from hip and back pain whilst doing so, and it helped her to a speedy post-birth recovery.

While the first few months of transitioning to parenthood proved difficult for Alicia, she says that it has gotten a lot easier. Aside from yoga, Alicia currently trains in boxing, which has served as an excellent form of physical and mental training for her. And, for mums who struggle to get back into fitness, Alicia has wise words of advice: “Don’t overthink it, and just do it.”

“It’s easy to procrastinate and just say ‘I’ll start tomorrow.’ Start today, even if it means just 15 minutes on a mat or a brisk walk.”

Just move!
